C.S. Lewis

Till We Have Faces:

"The complaint was the answer. To have heard myself making it was to be answered...When the time comes to you at which you will be forced at last to utter the speech which has lain at the center of your soul for years, which you have, all that time...been saying over and over, you'll not talk about the joy of words. I saw well why the gods do not speak to us openly, nor let us answer... Why should they hear the babble that we think we mean? How can they meet us face to face till we have faces?"
'Till we have faces" is 'a myth retold,' based on the Greek Psyce, and told from the perspective of Orual, the half-sister of the princess. It is a dramatic theological exploration of the ideas of fate, justice, and divine intervention, written astoundingly by Lewis, who is my favorite apologist. The story will leave you wondering how exactly this is going to tie in to a religious theme, and then of course astounded at the brilliance of the conclusion. Lewis has a way of treating the word 'god' with irreverance and applying it to other things that are not the Lord God, but simply a god, which is confusing. But it would not be fair now to say more, though I may come back and elaborate, so I encourage you to keep in mind that there is only one answer.

Why I don't Watch Television

It's a complete waste of time... except for really characteristically exceptional videos, such as Treasure Planet (For the sake of Captain Amelia, primarily), and a few others that are quite well-written. Still, I have to much in my life to accomplish... world-domination, realization of true-love, rearing of my three perfect temporarily imaginary children, finishing this endless round of educational battles... to bother with mindless entertainment. Entertainment, yes, but give me a chess-board or a time-proven novel or a magazine to publish...
